Curriculum
Special attention is given to the development of reading skills , reading comprehension, language and writing skills. Teachers use multi-faceted approaches to ensure that children with different learning styles and developmental rates are consistently motivated to read and write at their highest level.
The mathematics program incorporates a variety of manipulatives to facilitate the exploration and understanding of number combinations, problem solving and logistical reasoning. This establishes a strong foundation for more advanced concepts taught, including graphing, measurement, geometry, time and money skills.
Science in the lower grades is experimental as students discover by doing. The use of hands-on, laboratory-type experiences challenges the students' higher level of thinking skills. Study focuses on the life sciences (plant, life and ecology), physical science (matter and energy), earth sciences (volcanoes, earthquakes, the solar system, etc.) and the human body.
In Social Studies, the students learn about maps and globes, and explore basic geographic features of the earth. As they develop an awareness and appreciation for other cultures, students come to better understand their role as Christian citizens in the world.

Philosophy Lutheran South Academy believes it is an exciting task to teach pre-kindergarten through fifth graders as they learn to read...so that they can read to learn! It is our goal to provide students with a solid foundation in the basics of religion, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. This is accomplished through a variety of age-appropriate learning experiences, including hands-on activities, which creates a love for learning that will last students throughout their lives. |
